presented with the following silver , what would you offer?
I've been offered the following via email , but would do the deal in person .
They are offering (1) 1999 Maple Leaf (2) 1984 Prospector coins (10) Common late 30's through 40's Walking Liberty's (all in very nice condition not worn down) (2) 1 oz art bars (2) common date eagles not graded (1) Painted eagle (not sure of date) (4) silver dimes (2) Morgan Dollars (common dates) What would be a fair to them yet not overpaying offer to make . I don't want to insult them but I also want to come out ahead of just breaking even or worse. Yes I'm way too new to investing in PM , my experience in the past was buy an ounce or so when I needed it to cast a ring or such so the cost was always passed on in the end . Educate me please. |
Re: presented with the following silver , what would you offer?
I'd offer $190.00 and go as higher as $200.00 if it were me.

Re: presented with the following silver , what would you offer?
my dealer was selling junk silver for 9.5 times face today, that covers the walking liberties and dimes (he pays 8.5-9)
the colored eagle I would pay spot at most for ( I hate them) same with art bars the others it depensds upon how nice of a guy you are :bull-buddy-icon: good luck Quote:

Re: presented with the following silver , what would you offer?
Here's my breakdown:
We'll call spot $14.00. The ML, Prospectors, Art Bars, and Eagles (painted included) totals 8oz for which I would pay $120. I'm assuming these "walking liberties" are half dollars, that image is depicted on several coins and you could be talking dollar coins. Regardless ,we're working on face value so just up the face X multiplier if they are not halves. The dimes, halves and morgans are all 90% and morgans carry a small numismatic premium so we'll round up. You're looking at $7.40 face value and I'd give the guy 11.5X face max. So $85.00 for the 90%. so, in total right around $200 is what I would spend for this type of silver. |
Re: presented with the following silver , what would you offer?
So sounds like $200 or less would be about right then.
I was thinking about offering $175 prior to this post so was off a little . May still start with $175 , easier to go up than down . Any other info or suggestions are welcomed. Thanks |

Thanks for asking. |
Re: presented with the following silver , what would you offer?
8 oz pure silver @ $13 = $104
$12.40* face @ 9.30 = $115 (spot X .715) TOTAL $219 Make your deal from there. TIP: First ask if the seller has a price in mind. * I thought you mean walking liberty dollars. If you meant halves just refigure. |
Re: presented with the following silver , what would you offer?
I came up with 181 so I would pay 175 to 190 max.
What Saul said - always always always let them name their price first! Remind them its their coins so what do othey want for them - this lets you adjust your opening offer according ly or pass without making an offer. |
Re: presented with the following silver , what would you offer?
well , fell through . they said they wanted $275 .
but did pick up a 2004 eagle with slight scuff on the front for 14.15 + tax = $15 total passed on a 2008 eagle unc for $20 total , right or wrong decision ? |
